Do you want to have fun, meet great people, and support local art all at the same time? Celebrating our 39th season, Arts Fair on the Square relies on its amazing volunteers for a successful event. Please join us to make this Arts Fair on the Square better than ever before!

 

Sign up for flexible hours in a wide variety of positions integral to supporting art and artists on the beautiful grounds surrounding the Monroe County Courthouse on the best arts day in Bloomington! We have a wide variety of volunteer positions available including Traffic Control, Set-Up Assistant, Daily Runner, and Art Center Assistant. We will gladly work with your available time and interests. Sign up for as many or few of the two to four hour shifts that you like or let us know what times work better for you and we will happily pencil you in.

Volunteer position descriptions:

 

Check-In & Setup Assistant

 

Purpose: The position of Check In & Set Up Assistant is to show artist to their booth spaces, help artists unload supplies, and set up materials and various spaces for Arts Fair on the Square.

 

Time Commitment: There is one five-hour shift on June 22nd,
5:00 AM to 10:00 AM

 

Key Responsibilities:
Help set up street closing materials, signage, and other event areas as needed before artist arrival
Check in artists upon arrival
Show artists to their booth spaces*
Help unload artists’ supplies*

Traffic Control Assistant

 

Purpose: Manage the flow of traffic during setup and teardown, emphasis on maintaining the order and the flow of vehicular traffic around the square as artists arrive to unload in the morning and reload in the evening.

 

Time Commitment: There are two shifts, one five-hour and one four-hour, on June 22nd,
5:00 AM to 10:00 AM
4:30 PM to 8:30 PM

 

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in directing vehicles for unloading and loading
Manage the flow of traffic around the courthouse
Morning Only - Help set up street closing materials and traffic signage before artist load in
Evening Only - Help take down street closing materials and traffic signage after artist load out

 

Arts Fair Information

 

Purpose: To provide representation and information about Arts Fair on the Square and answer any questions artists or attendees might have regarding the event including logistics, such as hours, parking, bathrooms, exhibiting artists, community booths, entertainment, and related events such as Taste of Bloomington. Arts Fair Information personnel should also have a thorough understanding of the fair’s history and audience. Arts Fair Information personnel should also be very familiar with the most recent and upcoming BPP shows, events, and personnel.

 

Time Commitment: There are four shifts, one five-hour and three four-hour, on June 22nd,
5:00 AM to 10:00 AM
9:30 AM to 1:30 PM
1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
4:30 PM to 8:30 PM*

*Clean up of all information tent, materials, and tables from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

 

Key Responsibilities:
Manage the Arts Fair on the Square Information Tent
Provide representation and information about Arts Fair on the Square to fair patrons
Assist artists with fair information and logistics
Maintain Information Tent Artist Hospitality food and drink area

 

Daily Runner

 

Purpose: To provide water and other supplies to the artists, watch artist booths when artists are in need of a break, assist entertainment groups with setup and teardown, and monitor fair attendance every 30 minutes.

 

Time Commitment: There are three four-hour shifts on June 22nd,
10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
2:00 PM to 6:00 PM*

*Clean up of information tent area and supplies from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

 

Key Responsibilities:
Watch artist booths when artists are in need of a break
Provide water to artists
Assist entertainment groups with setup and teardown
Monitor fair attendance every 30 minutes
Other duties as assigned

 

Art Center Assistant

 

Purpose: Art Center Assistants will explain art projects and assist participants in the creation of their artwork if necessary. Art Center Assistant will also make sure that the art center tables are clean, organized, and stocked in accordance with activity needs.

 

Time Commitment: There are three four-hour shifts on June 22nd,
8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
11:30 AM to 3:30 PM
3:00 PM to 7:00 PM*

*Clean up of all art center materials including tents, tables, and chairs from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

 

Key Responsibilities:
Monitor the Art Center activities
Maintain supplies in area
Help with creating artwork if needed
Morning Only - Help set up art centers and activities before fair begins

 

Check-Out & Teardown Assistant

 

Purpose: Check Out & Teardown Assistants ensure that all artists are checked out in a timely fashion, help the artists break down their booths, assist artists in taking items to their vehicles, maintain a well-organized loading zone, monitor loading zones times, help return fair supplies to the BPP, and ensure that the courthouse grounds are clean and free of debris after load out is complete.

 

Time Commitment: There is one four-hour shift on June 22nd,
5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

 

Key Responsibilities:
Check booth areas to ensure artists are ready for checkout
Direct artists to checkout
Assist artists with transportation of supplies to vehicles
Help with clean up after the event

 

Photographer

 

Purpose: Digitally document all of the fair including artist booths, demonstrations, and entertainment. Previous experience required. Equipment preferred. All resulting imagery is property of the Bloomington Playwrights Project. Disc of the digital images required the week following the fair.

 

Time Commitment: Varies. Flexible two to four hour shifts on June 22nd. Contact Event Manager for more information.

 

Key Responsibilities:
Digitally document Arts Fair on the Square
